A mom from caught her son having sex with his teacher in a car by using a controversial tracking app, it has been reported.

The parent, who has not been named publicly, installed Life 360 on her son's phone.

She then became suspicious when she was alerted that the son had not gone to rugby practice, and was instead in a car park.

The mother drove to her son's location in Mecklenburg and found him with his 26-year-old South Mecklenburg High School teacher Gabriela Cartaya-Neufeld.

WSOC reported that the mother took photos of the teacher's car and called police to the scene.

Ms Cartaya-Neufeld was then taken into custody.

According to police, the parent had heard rumors of the relationship after they spread around the school.

Administrators questioned both the teen and his teacher.

Ms Cartaya-Neufeld has been charged with five counts of felony sexual activity with a student by a teacher.

She was taken to Mecklenburg County jail late last month but is now on bail.

Life 360 has become popular with parents looking to keep track of their kid's movements.

Mark Zuckerberg’s sister Randi is a board member at the company.

The app has around 50 million active monthly users and was forecast to make earnings of $300 million this year.

But many have raised concerns over the app leading to an invasion of privacy for kids.
