Thousands of migrants line Mexico to US train track as sheer scale of crisis laid bare

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported over 10,000 migrant encounters in a single day on Tuesday.

Mexico: Thousands of migrants depart towards US border

Shocking video shows thousands of migrants lining a railroad track from Mexico to the US - yet another example of the crisis at the southern border.

In the clip, a train passes by huge waving crowds around three hours from the Texas border line.

It follows a report by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of over 10,000 migrant encounters in a single day on Tuesday.

And last week, there were over 12,000 migrant encounters in a single day.

In the Tucson and Del Rio Sectors alone, agents faced 3,000 and 2,700 encounters respectively.

Lawmakers have been briefed on the crisis, learning that more than 5,000 immigrants are secretly entering the US daily.

Additionally, 1,600 migrants arriving at ports of entry are processed and released each day using humanitarian parole. According to Boundless Immigration, "humanitarian parole" is "a discretionary grant of temporary permission to enter the United States for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit."

The diversity of migrants at the border is striking, with individuals from over 150 countries seeking entry.

Notably, over 190 Chinese nationals were encountered in the San Diego sector, while the Tucson Sector saw more than 120 encounters of nationals from Guinea.

The Biden administration, grappling with the overwhelming surge, has requested $14 billion in additional border funding from Congress.

This funding includes support for migrant care, costs related to expedited removal, and aid for affected cities.

However, the request faces opposition from Republicans seeking stricter limits on releases into the US, by increasing asylum screening standards and reducing parole use — proposals that some Democrats are hesitant to endorse.

The administration emphasizes the need for comprehensive immigration reform, characterizing the situation as a hemisphere-wide crisis.

While calling for increased consequences for illegal entry, the administration has also highlighted the expansion of "lawful migration pathways."

The end of Title 42 in May (which Donald Trump used in order to regulate border crossings as part of increased COVID-19 precautions) further complicates the landscape.
