Donald and Melania Trump welcomed their son Barron Trump on March 20, 2006, with Barron becoming Donald's fifth child and Melania's first.

The news of Melania being pregnant with Barron came shortly after the former president tied the knot with wife Melania in 2005. Though Trump was fairly shocked about Melania being pregnant just six months after their wedding, he was overjoyed.

“He came home [one day last August], and I told him he’d be a daddy. And his reaction was…at first he needed to take it in. It was a real surprise. And then he was very happy,” Melania shared with PEOPLE.

Donald added: “I expected we were going to have children, so I wasn’t totally surprised. But I was surprised by the speed of it. It happened very quickly.”

Before Barron was born, Donald proposed the name for the little boy because he was always fond of it but didn’t get the opportunity to use it for his other sons.

Despite Melania being satisfied with the name, at last minute, Donald had second thoughts about the moniker.

“It’s a name I’ve always loved but I never had the courage to use. I gave the idea to Melania and then I was going to take it away at the very end and she said, ‘You can’t take it away! I’ve been calling him Barron while he’s been in my stomach and you just can’t take it away!’” Donald said while on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Barron, grew up in the White House, but unlike some of Donald’s other children, he lives outside of the spotlight.

Melania has talked about her bond with Barron and her views on motherhood in the past. “As a mother … I know what goes into raising a child. It takes an incredible amount of strength, a lot of time, a generous amount of patience, and all of our love,” she shared during a Mother’s Day event in 2018.

She continued: “Because of the powerful bond between a mother and her child, when they feel emotions, so do we – whether they are happy or nervous, sad or excited, we feel those things with them. I think it is one of the most powerful and beautiful parts of motherhood.”

In September 2023, while speaking with Megyn Kelly, Donald praised his youngest son, saying that Barron is a “very good athlete,” and “a good kid.” He's also said that his soon is a good-looking kid and a great student.
