People were shocked to see the elusive former first lady Melania Trump make a rare public appearance Tuesday attending the tribute service for Rosalynn Carter in Georgia. A body expert says she looked “genuinely sad.”

The former first lady Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband Jimmy Carter, 99 – who made a poignant appearance and shared an emotional goodbye at the public funeral.

The former first lady has received lots of flack for her lack of public support and appearances with her husband since announcing his bid for president and his four separate criminal investigations.
While Melania hasn’t expressed much emotion about her husband’s disposition, a body language expert said she looked “genuinely sad” at the funeral earlier this week.

“This is a very solemn look from Melania who also seems distanced from the other First Ladies attending the funeral,” body language expert Judi James told the Daily Express US. “Her facial expression suggests genuine sadness here with her mouth pulled down at the corners and her eyes narrowed.”

However, the body language expert suggested that Melania was also struggling internally knowing that many in attendance do not support her husband. Melania was also slammed for “standing out like a sore thumb” in a gray trench coat amidst a sea of black.

“There is a hint of wariness about her sideways glance at one point though to suggest some inner feelings of pressure at attending this event with a line of Flotus’s who might not have high levels of respect for her husband’s presidency.”

The appearance marks her stepping into a more traditional former first lady role, as she joins current first lady Jill Biden and former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton to pay tribute to Carter.

Melania Trump has largely avoided the public eye since leaving Washington in January 2021, even as her husband pursues another campaign to return to the White House and faces surmounting pressure amidst his numerous legal battles.

Sources close to the former first lady have said her focus remains on their son, Barron, who is expected to graduate high school in Florida next year.
