Donald Trump made his third trip to Iowa this month on Wednesday, as he turned his attention to the state where Republicans will cast the first presidential nomination votes in 33 days.

The former president, who has remained far ahead of his rivals in national polls and those of likely Iowa caucusgoers, campaigned regularly in the state throughout the fall, far more than in any other early-voting state for the 2024 Republican nomination. Wednesday marks his 11th visit since September.

His wife Melania Trump was not in attendance, making this the 11th time she's snubbed the state of Iowa leaving her husband to attend the events alone.

Trump’s “Commit to Caucus” event took place in the eastern city of Coralville near Iowa City.

Trump, whose federal election case was paused today, used his time speaking at the rally to criticize his fellow Republican candidates, as well as President Joe Biden, who is currently being targeted by a Republican impeachment plot. He said: "As long as crooked Joe is in the White House, the American dream is dead."

The event is evidence of a more disciplined campaign focused on the mechanics of caucuses as Trump seeks the nomination a third time.

When Trump first ran in 2016, he was unfamiliar with a caucus, and the need for intense organization to turn out supporters at hundreds of local meetings around the state. Trump lost Iowa in 2016.

Trump’s campaign has already started reviving election fraud claims in 2024’s Iowa race, with his campaign firing off a statement over the weekend that said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his wife had a “plot to rig the Caucus through fraud.”

A Reuters poll conducted from December 5-11 shows Trump leading his next closest opponent in the primary by 50 percent.

Another poll from Morning Consult from December 8-10 shows Trump ahead by 54 percentage points, The Hill reported.

Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, said in one of his campaign’s videos: "President Trump of course has a tremendous lead in the polls, but we cannot leave anything to chance."

Trump will head to New Hampshire and Nevada - states that hold Republicans' second and third nominations - for events later this week.
