A teenager faces charges for multiple misdemeanours after allegedly sharing plans online to carry out a mass shooting at the Temple Israel synagogue in Canton, Ohio.
A teenager has been arrested for allegedly planning a mass shooting at Temple Israel in Canton, Ohio.
The 13-year-old boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, faces misdemeanour charges of inducing panic and disorderly conduct.
The accused allegedly shared his plan on the online platform Discord which reportedly tipped off the FBI.
Discord’s Vice President of Trust and Safety John Redgrave told ABC News in a statement that the company "proactively detected, removed, and reported this user to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center, which is what led to the user’s arrest".
It added: "We have a zero-tolerance policy against hate and violent extremism, and when we see it, we take immediate action. It is a top priority for Discord to ensure a safe experience for our users."

A court filing for the case read: "The suspect created a detailed plan to complete a mass shooting at the Temple Israel on the Discord platform, which was reported to law enforcement and required an immediate investigatory response."
Although the September 1 incident predates the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, the charges come amid a surge in antisemitic attacks in the US, coupled with a rise in anti-Muslim violence.
The Anti-Defamation League Cleveland expressed its horror, acknowledging the thorough investigation by law enforcement while emphasizing the need to address hate and threats on social media.

The suspect faced a pre-trial hearing on November 20 and is scheduled to stand trial on December 20.
