Social media users share their tips for quickly removing snow and ice from car windscreens
A number of social media users have given their tips on how to easily remove snow from a vehicle windscreen, warning that one method could cause damage.
A motorist has taken to social media for advice on the best ways to clear snow from their car this winter, and has received a number of interesting tips.
The Reddit user @iratam posted their question to the r/lifehacks group, in which people share their advice on small tips that can make a difference around the home and in the car.
Writing on the subreddit, @iratam explained that he is getting old and heard about a device which could help to melt away the snow quickly.
He said: “We won’t be going down south for the next two winters. We have a pickup truck. I’m not very tall and I am getting old fast. Is there a hack that would remove snow, either by itself or by making it easier?
“I saw an ad for a gizmo that you put on your dash and with essential oil it makes the snow disappear. Pretty sure it’s a scam. But seriously, is there something that already exists?”

Replying to @iratam’s question, another Reddit user warned that drivers should avoid putting essential oil on the windows of their car.
They noted that, whilst the substance would help to clear snow, it would greatly reduce visibility, putting other road users at risk.
Nevertheless, many other social media users offered other suggestions that could help to reduce snow and ice without running the risk of damaging the vehicle.

The Redditor @Cautious-That suggested that the motorist used a specific kind of broom to help them easily access hard to reach places.
They noted: “Get a Snowjoe snow broom. It’s a foam square on a long handle to push all the snow off in one long push. It is way easier and more effective than any other item.
“We lived on the shore of Lake Superior for years, which is where we found out about it, since they get a ton of snow. I’m very short, it’s the only way I could get the snow off the roof.”
Another user, @Logical-Wasabi7402, recommended that the driver simply place a cover, such as an old bedsheet, over the windscreen to stop the ice and snow from reaching the windscreen.
They wrote: “I also live in the mountains. When my brother needed to drive somewhere early in the morning, he would just cover the windshield with an old bedsheet and tuck the ends in so the closed front doors held them in place.
“Just be careful when you take the sheet off.”
