An internet auto influencer has revealed three mistakes drivers commonly make while washing their cars so you can optimize the time you spend cleaning and avoid vehicle damage.

This video’s motoring expert, Chris, rounds up his tips in a YouTube video that has racked up over 5million views.

One mistake Chris (@chrisfix) highlights in his clip is when drivers don’t clean out their car washing bucket before adding elements like water and soap.

Chris urges motorists to clean out their buckets so they don’t pick up dirt when dipping their microfiber towels into the container.

He clarifies that rubbing this dirt into your paint can cause scratching.

Next, Chris emphasizes the importance of getting your car soaking wet with soap and water before cleaning, as dry vehicle cleaning can also result in scratches.

This tip is especially vital for drivers with black cars that display scratches more prominently.

This auto enthusiast’s following advice is to avoid using paper towels, old t-shirts, sponges, or bath towels on your car’s paint during washing.

Chris instead uses a microfiber towel to ensure the surface contact he’s making with a vehicle’s exterior isn’t too rough.

This video’s car maintenance and repair expert also stresses the importance of cleaning your vehicle from top to bottom.

He explains that the bottom of your car will be far dirtier than its top portions, so starting from the top helps prevent excess dirt from contaminating your towels at the beginning of cleaning.
