Scotty Kilmer, the popular online mechanic, has warned drivers of a popular car that they may need to return it to stay safe.

The mechanic of 55 years now regularly posts on his YouTube channel, reacting to the latest news surrounding the car industry and helps viewers find a reliable new or used car.

In a recent video, he noted that Ford has placed a recall on some Ranger models due to a fault with an airbag component.

He said: “You’re not going to believe this, Ford is now recalling vehicles for bad airbags that they already recalled, but they didn’t fix them right.

“It turns out they may have put the actuators in backwards, so they won’t go in the right direction. It’s bad enough they didn’t build them right, but then they didn’t fix them right. What is going on with Ford?”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) previously announced that a fault with airbags could affect 52million vehicles in the USA.

Whilst Ford had placed recalls on a large number of vehicles affected by the initial fault, research has found that a replacement component was installed incorrectly.

As a result, drivers of a select amount of Ford Rangers built between 2004 and 2006 that were recalled in 2017 and 2018 may have to return their car to the manufacturer.

Later in the video, Scotty recommended that all Ford Ranger owners check if their vehicle is affected by entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), commonly found etched into the windshield, into the NHTSA’s website.

He continued: “Now, this is for Ford Rangers, so if you’re curious get your VIN number, put it on your phone at the NHTSA and find out if that VIN number is recalled, and get your airbag fixed for a second time.

“Hopefully it won’t need a third time!”

With 59,000 views and over 4,200 likes, many viewers interested in the news left their views on the subject in the comments section.

One viewer wrote: “Lots of problems with the Ranger. They have disabled the keyless entry as it leaves the car open and unlocked.”

However, another commented: “If I’m correct, it’s a third-party that makes the airbags so it wouldn’t be Ford’s fault.”
