The beloved Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher's cause of death has been made public. The actor sadly died following a brief but impactful illness.

Andre Braugher, the Emmy-winning actor, succumbed to lung cancer.

His representative said that Andre's diagnosis came just months before his passing at 61 years old on a Monday.

Beloved in the television world, Andre is featured in every one of the 153 episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a popular police comedy.

He also gained fame for his roles in Homicide: Life on the Street on NBC and the comedy-drama Men of a Certain Age.

Additionally, Andre's film career included notable performances in Frequency, The Mist, and City of Angels.

Following Andre's passing, his former colleagues and friends have expressed their sorrow and respect. Numerous Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast members have taken to social media to pay homage to Andre.

Terry Crews, known for his role as Lieutenant Terry Jeffords, shared a heartfelt message on social media. He wrote about his deep admiration for Andre and gratitude for their time together.

“Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent,” Terry wrote. “This hurts. You left us too soon.”

Marc Evan Jackson, who played Andre's on-screen spouse in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, shared a behind-the-scenes snapshot of the duo from the show on social media. His caption poignantly read, "O Captain. My Captain."

Meanwhile, Melissa Fumero, known for her role as Amy Santiago, posted a series of photos with Andre.

In her tribute, Melissa fondly recalled the valuable advice Andre gave her, his infectious laughter, and his deep devotion to his family.

“I will remember all the advice you gave me. I will remember all the times we laughed because your laugh was one of the all-time greatest laughs to have ever existed. I will remember the deep love and loyalty you had for your family…” she wrote, adding, “It was an honor to be in your orbit for a time, Sir. May you Rest in Peace, my friend.”



Andre was known for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a show that aired for eight seasons between 2013 and 2021. His performance earned him two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and four Emmy nominations.

He leaves behind his wife Ami Brabson, a fellow actor whom he met on the set of Homicide and shared over three decades of marriage with.

Andre is also mourned by his three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley, his brother Charles Jennings, and his mother, Sally Braugher.
