André Braugher dies age 61: Star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine passed away from illness

André Braugher, the two-time Emmy-winning star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine has died.

André Braugher has died. The actor passed away on Monday after a short illness at age 61.

His publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed the news of his death to Variety

Braugher, born in Chicago. starred alongside Andy Samberg in the TV comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. His role on the show made him a fan favorite, thanks to his deadpan and no-nonsense demeanor.

Braugher also won an Emmy for his roles as Detective Frank Pembleton on “Homicide: Life on Street" and well as for his role in Theif.

He won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Captain Ray Holt in the series and received four Emmy Award nominations.

He is also known for playing Detective Frank Pembleton in the NBC drama Homicide: Life on the Street.

The actor worked on TV and in feature films throughout his long career but prioritized his family over fame.

He told Variety in 2020: “It’s been an interesting career, but I think it could have been larger.

“I think it could have spanned more disciplines: directing, producing, all these other different things. But it would have been at the expense of my own life.”

He leaves behind his wife Ami Brabson, who also appeared in Homicide: Life on the Street, and their three children.
