Michael Gambon cause of death revealed after Harry Potter star dies aged 82

Sir Michael Gambon was known for his iconic role as Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series, and sadly passed away at the age of 82.

Sir Michael Gambon died peacefully in hospital at the age of 82 following a bout of pneumonia.

A statement from his family said: "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.

"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.

"We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love."

The actor's career spanned across five decades with him being well-known for playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films.

Taking over the role from Richard Harris, who died in 2002, Michael gained a huge fanbase with a younger audience who were fans of the Wizarding world of the infamous franchise.

However, his acting debut started back in 1962 when he was in a production of Othello in Dublin.

The late star was also known for his roles in Gosford Park, The King's Speech, Sleepy Hollow and The Paddington films.

Since the news of his death, tributes have been pouring in from around the globe, including Harry Potter's official Twitter where they said: "We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Michael Gambon. He brought immeasurable joy to Harry Potter fans from all over the world with his humour, kindness and grace. We will forever hold his memory in our hearts."
