Donald Trump “snarled with contempt” during a rally event in Iowa on Wednesday as the race for president becomes “personal,” one body language expert said.

Trump made his third trip to Iowa this month on Wednesday, as he turns his attention to the state where Republicans will cast the first presidential nomination votes in 32 days.

The former president remains far ahead of his rivals in national polls, but he has campaigned regularly in the Hawkeye State throughout the fall - far more than in any other early-voting state for the 2024 Republican nomination.

Speaking at a rally in Coralville, Trump made countless promises to his supporters and claimed that he would beat President Joe Biden in the upcoming election.

And body language expert Judi James said that Trump is far from “running low on gas.”

James told Daily Express US of his rally in Iowa: “[Trump] looks so pumped up and so fired up emotionally by the sense of his own righteousness and indignation and by his utter contempt for his opponents that he’s far from a man running on fumes or even getting slightly low on gas.”

During his speech, Trump often spoke directly to his supporters and made jokes.

James said: “His eyes still scan the crowd as he speaks and, like a stand-up comic’s, they seem to settle on one member of the audience who he can share the laughter with one-to-one.

“He looks totally off-script so not yet in need of any of the kind of fall-back support that a script and auto-cue might offer and his gripes look and sound fresh even though some have been delivered on repeat.”

James added that while Trump “snarled with contempt,” he still appeared to enjoy the fight for presidency.

She said: “Trump’s snarling indignation and contempt are still visible in the tight rounded lips and the displayed lower teeth. But the thing with Trump is that he looks as though he’s enjoying the fight.

“His look of smug resilience does appear to be congruent and authentic, not mere performed bravado.

“His epic battle is personal more than political and that creates a powerful difference between his body language delivery and that of his rivals.”

Trump continues to perform well in national polls, leading his closest opponent in the primary by 50 percent, according to a Reuters poll conducted from December 5 to 11.
