The FBI have arrested a man who allegedly threatened to shoot Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy at a campaign event in New Hampshire.

Tyler Anderson, 30, was arrested by the FBI and faces up to five years in prison, three years of probation and a maximum fine of $250,000 after he was accused of threatening the presidential candidate.

The candidate in question was not named in official documents, but Ramaswamy's campaign confirmed to DailyMail.com that it was him that had received the threatening messages.

It's alleged that after receiving a message from the Ramaswamy's campaign on December 8 promoting a political campaign stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on December 11, Anderson made the threat via text message.

"Great, another opportunity for me to blow his brains out!" Anderson wrote, according to images of the text messages in charging documents from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Hampshire.

In a separate message to the biotech entrepreneur's campaign, he allegedly wrote: "I'm going to kill everyone who attends and then f*** their corpses."

Ramaswamy went ahead with the event on Monday, sharing on social media of him speaking with people at a diner.

Tricia McLaughlin, senior advisor and communications director of his campaign, told the outlet: "We are grateful to law enforcement for their swiftness and professionalism in handling this matter.

"We're going to let the investigators do their work and figure out who this person is and what their motives might be."

She also accused Democrats and left-leaning media of hypocrisy, claiming they fail to call-out threats and violence against GOP candidates.

"[W]e constantly hear about January 6 and 'violence' and 'extremism on the right' from the media, but the same media goes silent when the target is a Republican," she said.

"It's no wonder that fanatics will take action. Whenever it's some nut with alleged right-wing views, the media is quick to blame all conservatives for stoking violence."

She added: "And yet the media never looks in the mirror and sees that they stoke hatred and violence by questioning our patriotism and motives and accusing us of undermining democracy."

Anderson was due to appear in federal court in Concord, New Hampshire at 2.30pm today.

Federal agents were reportedly granted a search warrant for Anderson's home on Central Avenue in Dover on Saturday, and seized a Samsung Galaxy S10E phone believed to have been used to send the text messages.

They also removed firearms from the residence, according to court documents, which did not reveal specify the type of guns seized.

An FBI agent claimed they discovered the messages reported by Ramaswamy's campaign in a deleted folder, NBC's local Boston 10 affiliate reported.

Agents also allegedly found threats to another candidate, which included a promise to “blow that bastard’s head off” and the message: “Thanks, I’ll see you there. Hope you have the stamina for a mass shooting!”
