Joe Biden's birthday joke backfires spectacularly as he's ripped for embarrassing post

The President posted a light-hearted image for his 81st birthday - but many didn't find it funny.

has posted a celebratory joke on his page for his 81st birthday - but the gag hasn't gone down too well with hordes of social media users.

The President cracked a joke about his age on his official Instagram account, posting a picture of himself smiling and sitting in front of a birthday cake that has so many candles on it that it resembles a small campfire.

The image has the caption: "Thanks for the birthday well-wishes today, everyone. Turns out on your 146th birthday, you run out of space for candles!"

While the President was making a clear pun regarding the ongoing concerns about his age as it comes directly under the spotlight ahead of the 2024 election.

Instagram users were left less than impressed by the joke. One user wrote: "Is that cake supposed to represent America right now?"

"81 candles on a cake……pls [please] go to a nursing home," another user chimed in.

Another added: "Why is he gripping the table like that?"

While some posters wished the President a happy birthday in earnest, others made it clear they were no fan of the current White House occupant, who is the oldest ever US president.

Another user posted: "Satan watching the earth burn."

The President and will travel to , on Tuesday to celebrate Biden’s birthday with family.

The pair will stay on the island through the holiday.

The mood for Biden's birthday and Thanksgiving is likely to be dampened given a recent polls finding that voters think Biden is too old to continue being president.

One poll conducted for the New York Times and Siena College, suggested that 71 percent of voters, including 54 percent of Democrats, felt Biden was “too old” to be president.
