Republican Party presidential hopeful Nikki Haley would beat Joe Biden "handily" in 2024 should she become the nominee, polling has shown.

A poll from Messenger/Harris put Ms Haley four points ahead of Mr Biden with Donald Trump leading the President by seven points.

The poll showed that Mr Trump still has a big lead over the rest of his Republica Party rivals in the primaries.

A huge 76 percent sided with the former president over Ms Haley while 73 percent said the same against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Ms Haley started the campaign as an outsider but has attracted more moderate Republican voters thanks to her performances in the debates and her views on foreign policy.

Harris’s chief pollster Dritan Nesh said of the former South Carolina Governor: “The Haley phenomenon is driven by moderate Republicans, Independents and disaffected voters.

“She beats Biden handily in a general election because of this but still has a lot of ground to make up with Republicans."

Ms Haley's appeal to moderates has been shown after a Democratic mega-donor donated $250,000 to her backers in a bid to stop Mr Trump from becoming the nominee.

Reid Hoffman, the billionaire co-founder of LinkedIn, gave the funds to Stand For America (SFA), a group campaign for Ms Haley.

Dmitri Mehlhorn, a political adviser to Mr Hoffman, confirmed the donation.

Other Democrat-leaning figures have backed Ms Haley, including Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of JP Morgan Chase.

He said: “Even if you’re a very liberal Democrat, I urge you, to help Nikki Haley too.

"Get a choice on the Republican side that might be better than Trump.”

Ms Haley's opponents have highlighted the donations from big Democrats, using it to criticize her campaign.

A spokesman for Ron DeSantis’ campaign said: “It’s no wonder why Democrat mega-donors and Wall Street CEOs are donating to Nikki Haley – they know she’s a liberal who will do their bidding.”

Mr Trump’s camp have also branded the intervention by Wall Street’s biggest players as an “unholy alliance” of “globalist special interest donors from both parties’’.
