The French actress who accused actor Gerard Depardieu of attempting to grope her in a carriage on a film set has reportedly died by suicide.

Emmanuelle Debever, who appeared alongside Depardieu in 1982 film, Danton, has been claimed to have jumped into the River Seine just a day after a documentary on allegations against him aired.

Gerard Depardieu: The Fall Of The Ogre aired on channel France 2 on December 7, covering multiple claims against the actor, including Debever’s.

One of the first accusers to come forward, Debever claimed in a Facebook post in 2019 that Depardieu had tried to grope her by sliding his hand up her skirt while filming Danton.

In the movie, Debever played Louison, the very young wife of Depardieu’s leading man.

“This monster allowed himself to enjoy plenty during filming, making the most of the intimacy inside a carriage,” she wrote alongside a photo of the pair inside the carriage together in the movie.

“Sliding his fat paw under my skirt to, in his words, 'make me feel better'... me, I didn't allow it to happen.”

Liberation, via the National Audiovisual Institute, reported Debever, now 60, died by suicide on the same day the documentary aired.

Other accusations include two counts of rape by Charlotte Arnould, who claims in 2018 he assaulted her when she was 22 and anorexic.

Depardieu was placed under formal investigation in December 2020, but has never been convicted of any wrongdoing.

In April this year, Mediapart reignited allegations after an investigative report revealed a further 13 women who accused him of molestation between 2004 and 2022.

During the documentary, footage was shown of Depardieu making explicit sexual comments - including about a small girl riding a horse - during a 2018 trip to North Korea.

Depardieu continues to strongly deny the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse waged against him by his former female co-stars.

Saying he’s becoming center of a ‘lynching’, he defiantly stated in an open letter to French newspaper Figaro: “'Never, never have I abused a woman. Hurting a woman would be like kicking my own mother's tummy.

“All this is affecting me. Worse, it is extinguishing me.”
