Walmart stores are receiving a fresh look, all to encourage customers to shop at Walmart for things apart from essentials like groceries and other everyday necessities.

While the superstore, which is ditching self checkouts in two states, has stayed competitive with Target and similar stores on food sales, it has struggled to get consumers to buy items that bring in way bigger sales – like home goods and electronics.

Walmart, a company that has infuriated fans by discontinuing a popular sweet treat, told CNN it re-opened 117 stores in 30 states at a cost of half a billion dollars to keep shoppers engaged and purchasing products throughout the shop.

Those stores are part of an ongoing $9 billion investment over the past two years to revamp more than 1,400 of its more than 4,500 stores around the country.

The company says the upgrades are meant to modernize the look of a Walmart store and the experience in it.

The re-designed stores showcase home goods, such as bedding pieces, in touch-and-feel end-of-aisle displays to attract customers to interact with the products, the retailer said.

One of the most noticeable changes is Walmart pharmacies that have been pushed toward the front of the shop and include new private screening rooms.

Previously, it was reported that Walmart is launching a feature in nine states that will help fulfill online orders faster.

By the end of 2023, Walmart is preparing to launch over 40 mini post offices to make product delivery to people's homes super speedy.

The post offices should make next-day delivery more feasible, and will also aid employees in fulfilling more orders as they pour in more and more.

Conveniently, many of the mini-package stations will be able to operate by the holiday season, starting in nine states.
