'Don't steal from Walmart self checkout - I almost did and what happened was mortifying'

Walmart and similar retailers have experienced huge company losses due to an increasing amount of thefts. A woman who accidentally stole from the establishment cautioned others to not do so after an embarrassing encounter.

Walmart is rigid with the measures they put in place to prevent stealing, which is no surprise with the number of losses reported in recent years due to theft in self-checkout kiosks. Some people even have “skip-scanning” tricks that they use to bypass paying for some of their items at the superstore.

A woman who accidentally did not scan an item while checking out on her own at Walmart shared a warning for those who intentionally steal at the store.

In a social media upload, the woman who goes by @crybabyscorpio on TikTok said: “This is a PSA that Walmart self-checkouts really are not the place to steal. Now don’t get me wrong, I was not purposely stealing in this moment. I got that done out of my system when I was 11 or 12 and had no money.

“I’m a grown adult. I pay rent. I have a job. But I was at self-checkout like a month ago at Walmart and I was buying a couple nail polishes and I scanned two and then the third one I could not get it to scan.

“You know when the stickers on there are just awkward? It was so awkward on the nail polish. I could not get it to scan.

“There was no attendance around, so I was like ‘oh my God, I’m just going to put it in the bag. B***h, it pops on the screen like ‘unscanned item, attendant is on their way.’

“Over some damn $6 nail polish? Oh my God. And the attendant, right as they get there, a f**king video pops up of them recording me just straight up putting it in the bag and not scanning it.”

She spoke of how she handled the situation when faced with the store attendant.

“I was like ‘oh sorry like I couldn’t get it to scan’. And she didn’t say anything to me, she was like my age, probably younger. But I was like oh my God, that’s mortifying,” she finished off.
