Sydney: CCTV shows woman stealing doughnut truck

A woman has been charged with stealing a delivery truck that contained 10,000 Krispy Kreme donuts.

The vehicle went missing from a petrol garage in Carlingford, Sydney, on November 29, police said.

Cops in Australia said they discovered the vehicle - along with thousands of spoiled doughnuts - abandoned at a car park a week later.

A woman, 28, who has not been named, was arrested on Thursday following an investigation.

Surveillance footage of the incident allegedly shows the woman lingering at the service station at around 4am local time on the day the truck disappeared, before entering the unattended vehicle and driving away.

Following her arrest, the woman was refused bail, and faces charges including vehicle theft and driving while disqualified, police said.

It is unclear if the woman knew the vehicle contained 10,000 donuts.

The truck had been loaded with Christmas-themed and classic donuts, News.com.au reported.

Krispy Kreme reported the incident to law enforcement, reassuring customers at the time that it was "working to replace the 10,000 stolen doughnuts".

"Police are currently searching for the van and the sweet-toothed thief," the company said in a statement at the time.

"We are happy to advise that customers who were intending to purchase or who had orders placed at Krispy Kreme Charlestown will be able to get their doughnuts, as stock has already been replaced."

Earlier in the investigation, police said the driver was paying the cashier inside when the woman jumped into the vehicle and drove away.

The van driver had reportedly stopped as they were making a number of deliveries of festive-themed donuts to locations around Newcastle.
