Getting a cup of coffee with breakfast on a plane for a little ‘perk me up’ always sounds like a good idea - but one flight attendant revealed why you should avoid it at all costs.
A flight attendant took to TikTok to share ‘dirty little secrets’ and one particular unknown fact had people vowing to never drink coffee on a plane again.
Posting on his TikTok account, @ichbinvin, he said: “I saw this post asking flight attendants what their dirty little secrets of the industry is and as a flight attendant I am crying at some of these.”
He started by saying that people should absolutely be going to the airport ten minutes early to get themselves a coffee because the one on the plane could have toilet bacteria in it.
He said the fact that the tanks that water for coffee comes out of rarely ever gets cleaned should be the least of your concern.

He said: “For me, it’s always been the way that flight attendants have to clean out coffee pots."
He explained that flight attendants are told to not empty coffee pots down the drain, but rather down the toilets. In order to not make a mess, they would need to get close to the toilet to empty it.
He added: “And I imagine that there's some kind of backsplash of particles bacteria, whatever that goes directly back into the coffee pot which gets put right back into the coffee maker.
“So unless the airline that you're buying has an espresso maker on the plane, I would not get coffee on the plane.”

Viewers were horrified by this revelation. One user said: “The coffee one is making me cry.” Another added: “Sir, thank you for your service NEVER drinking airplane coffee again!!!”
Meanwhile, other working and former fight attendants added in their flying no-nos.
One said: “Former flight attendant, I don’t take any drink from the cart especially not with ice - ice trays are at the exact height of people’s mouths for coughing/sneezing.”
Another reiterated that things have barely changed in the aviation industry. “I was a flight attendant in the 80’s and we were told in training not to drink the water/coffee. I guess it hasn’t changed.”
