Matthew Mercer stunned fans in London as the Critical Role panel appeared across three packed stages at MCM Comic Con alongside the rest of the Dungeons and Dragons icons Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Liam O’Brien and Taliesin Jaffe.

Undoubtedly the most notorious Game Master, and arguably the first true celebrity of the Dungeons and Dragons community, Matt’s homebrew world of Tal’Dorei for the Critical Role web series has also become the most famous setting for the tabletop roleplaying game.

However, when asked on the panel if there were certain areas of the world he wished the party had spent more time in, Matt casually revealed there are entire nations his players haven’t even seen yet.

The 41-year-old declared: “We've barely scratched the surface. There’s so much more to Exandria. We’ve only seen small bits of Issylra, and we’ve really only seen a small section of the Shattered Teeth,” pointing out various continents and island nations from the world.

While this revelation had the crowd of thousands cheering, his next words sparked an outright frenzy: “And that’s not even considering all of the underwater nations that kind of live separately from the mainland.”

A look of shock and stunned silence played out across the seven Hollywood actors on stage as they struggled to understand what the GM had just revealed.

With a chuckle, he added: “You guys have never been in the ocean parts of the world!”

The Last of Us star Ashley Johnson desperately tried to reason: “We didn’t know that was an option!”

As Matt tried to explain there are underwater cultures the group could still explore, Laura Bailey excitedly chimed in: “Can we all just be mermaids? Can we have a one-shot and be all mermaids?”

Laura, who plays sorcerer Imogen Temult in the latest Critical Role campaign, continued pestering her longtime friend: “Is that too much for Divine Intervention?”

Matt coyly responded: “There’s only one way to find out…” sparking a riotous response from the crowd.

The revelation also comes as fans gear up for the potential release of season three of Critical Role’s Amazon Prime series The Legend of Vox Machina, which takes the gameplay shenanigans to the silver screen in the animated show.

Despite having been confirmed in October last year, there has been no update on the show’s third season following season two’s finale in February.
