One woman is sharing how she has only spent $100 on Christmas presents thanks to thrifting and has made big savings in the process.

Rebecca Bingham, 34, from Atlanta, Georgia has bought secondhand gifts for loved ones as part of her own personal “thriftmas.”

Working in reality TV casting and development during the day, Ms Bingham was laid off from her job in November.

As a result, she found herself looking for ways to save money and cut costs until she found another role.

Due to her circumstances, she is now thrifting 70 percent of the Christmas presents for her family.

Fraud victim recalls how life savings were stolen

So far, she has put together 15 gift bundles for loved ones and has only spent $100 on all the thrifted items.

However, Ms Bingham has forked over an additional $100 to spend on a few extra holiday essentials, such as a bottle of sparkling wine.

For her Christmas present, she themed each bundle finding presents such as cookbooks, glassware and blankets for a few dollars each.

According to her, thrifting is “more special” and “better” than buying the latest products.

Ms Bingham has been thrift shopping in charity stores since she was a little girl and loved the “vintage element” of her purchases.

She explained: “The things I’ve purchased are really unique. I think it’s better than going to Amazon, and getting mass produced things that end up back in the thrift store.

“It’s more special. You never know what you are going to find in a thrift store – it’s exciting. I always combine thrifted elements with new elements. 70 percent is thrifted.”

One of her favorite purchases was a $12 brass butterfly decoration, as well as multiple cookbooks and an olive dish.

Daily Express US has previously covered the various savings people have made thanks to thrifting.

Ms Bingham added: “I love starting a bundle with a book. I love a cookbook. I got my stepmum a book signed by the author.

“Thrifting is the crème de la crème. It’s an outlet for my shopping addiction. All my best friends eagerly await my thrifted gifts.”

“It’s wild to see the amount of money spent on presents these days. If you have the money – go for it. What’s important about Christmas has been lost.

“It’s kind of sad. I love nostalgia. That’s what is important for Christmas. If you want it, you can thrift it.”
