Man told to 'run for the hills' over boyfriend's response to Christmas advent calendar

"This is so sad, he looked out in your face and said ‘the things you enjoy are a waste of money'."

One TikToker was told he deserved way better after he filmed his boyfriend’s response to him asking for a favor.

Niche advent calendars have been all the hype over the last few years, with many partaking in the trend to custom-make ones that cater to their loved ones’ interests.

On BookTok (the book-loving section of TikTok), book advent calendars have taken over. Wanting to be a part of it, one TikToker filmed himself asking his boyfriend if he would make one for him.

But his boyfriend’s sharp response had people telling him he needed to ’run for the hills’.

In the video posted on his account @kevintnorman, Kevin wrote ‘This did not go as planned’ across the video, along with a crying while smiling emoji.

He asked his boyfriend: “Hey babe, can you make me a bookish advent calendar and wrap them, so every day I can unwrap a new book?”

But his boyfriend told him to fake it for the video and claim it was from him. He also asked him to pick out books he already had and they could wrap it to make it seem like Kevin had new books to unwrap.

He said: “You do it and say it’s from me. I don't have time for that and you have too many books.”

“Why don't you do this? Pick out the books you want to unwrap and then we can sit down together and wrap them. I don't want to do it all. I’m not gonna go buy you more books. That is just a waste of money.”

Kevin appeared to feel dejected, as viewers noticed how his smile at the start of the video had faded into disappointment.

He replied: “You’re not supportive.”

The comments section of his video was divided as many thought his boyfriend’s response was a massive red flag. “This is so sad,” one comment read. “He looked out in your face and said ‘the things you enjoy are a waste of money’.”

Another added: “It’s the ‘you do it and say it’s from me’, like why would you do that for yourself and then give him credit?”

However, other comments seemed to agree with the boyfriend as they highlighted the steep costs of books.

“Books are like $15-$25 EACH! I would say no too, but he also made a perfect compromise to do it together? I don’t see this issue here.”

However, Kevin seemed to make light of the situation as he filmed a follow-up video of himself jokingly sobbing while wrapping books, as he wrote: “Making my own book advent calendar for Christmas because my boyfriend said he was too busy and I already have too many books.”
