This horse and buggy town actually has all the modern conveniences you’d ever need, which is why it's routinely ranked a top place to retire.
Lancaster, Pennsylvania was ranked in the top five best places to retire in this year’s annual U.S News & World report. While the town is best known for hosting a large Amish community, it also ranks high on the list for top places to retire because of its affordability, healthcare access and best-of-both-worlds lifestyle as a rural town with a bustling downtown. It is also only a two-hour drive from Philadelphia.
Pennsylvania is home to a handful of towns that rank as attractive places to retire, including Reading, Taylor Swift's neighboring hometown; Harrisburg, its capital; and Scranton, home to the ficitonal paper company Dundler Mifflin of NBC's The Office.
Other popular towns include Prescott, Arizona; Charleston, South Carolina; Orlando, Florida; Miami, Florida; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Cincinnati, Ohio; New Braunfels, Texas; and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The town boasts homes that are cheaper than the national average, landing around $290,000 with resident’s annual salary hovering around $50,000.
Lancaster is a “diverse” city with a population of over 550,000 people that boasts “beautiful farmlands” with a mix of farmers, families, college students and young professionals.
Locals also rave about its growing food scene with a diverse array of cuisines at “hip” restaurants and bars in converted warehouse buildings.
It also hosts a large Amish community that rides in style on horse and buggies. The group also shares their homemade goods at local farmers markets, including their signature pies and roast chicken dishes.
It also hosts a monthly arts and music festival called “First Friday” on the first Friday of each month, which is known to draw large crowds.
