The View's Whoopi Goldberg gave an impassioned speech about abortion rights as she shouted "get out of my uterus" to lawmakers on live television.

The View's Whoopi Goldberg made a passionate plea for abortion rights on live TV this week, shouting "get out of my uterus" at lawmakers.

The 68-year-old host was discussing the controversial case of Kate Cox's abortion when she made her feelings clear.

Whoopi expressed her outrage over the case and had some strong words for US lawmakers.

She said: "I don't really understand why people who don't know how my body functions and what it does and what it needs…

“I don't know why they are in charge when I'm paying taxes. Get out of my uterus! Get out of my uterus!"

She added: "Let me just be clear I appreciate people who don't ever have to make this decision.

“I appreciate you and I applaud you. But when there are people at risk and there are a group of folks making decisions about my body I don't get it.

This is not advocating or saying no to it all I'm saying is leave my body to me and my doctor. I mean am I crazy?"

Whoopi Goldberg has been candid about her own experience of having an abortion at the young age of 14.

She shared her story in Angela Bonavoglia's book, The Choices We Made, where she detailed the fear and stress she felt during that challenging time in her life, including the traumatic at-home abortion she endured.

"I found out I was pregnant when I was 14," she penned. "I didn't get a period.

“I talked to nobody. I panicked. I sat in hot baths. I drank these strange concoctions girls told me about - something like Johnny Walker Red with a little bit of Clorox, alcohol, baking soda - which probably saved my stomach - and some sort of cream.

“You mixed it all up. I got violently ill. At that moment I was more afraid of having to explain to anybody what was wrong than of going to the park with a hanger, which is what I did."
