Hip-hop star Usher has been confirmed as the headliner for next year's Super Bowl Halftime Show in Las Vegas, and he received some words of encouragement from a fellow music legend.

Usher received a motivational call from Jay-Z after being booked for the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show.

His headline performance was announced over the weekend and will air on February 11, 2024 on CBS.

Performing the sporting event is no small undertaking, especially following Rihanna’s already iconic show she performed whilst pregnant earlier this year.

Thankfully, Usher, 44, says his “big homie” reached out with some words of encouragement.

“When I got this call, he said, ‘It's time, it's magic time. You know, it's time for you to have that moment’,” he recalled.

Although Usher was thrilled to get the call from Beyoncé’s famous husband, it took him a moment to realize what the Roc Nation founder, 53, was actually referring to.

“I'm like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He's like, ‘The Super Bowl’,” he told Apple Music 1 DJ Zane Lowe.

Usher teased his upcoming performance by confirming he’s prepared to do something he’s always dreamed about doing.

He apparently told Jay-Z: “Oh, you ready? Absolutely.”

The Love in this Club singer is already booked with a Las Vegas residency, and says his Halftime Show was “destined to happen”.

“I think that everything that led up to that moment, going to Las Vegas for my residency for the last two years,” he told Lowe.

“The legacy, obviously, that is the music, the celebration of entertainment in that place. It's the City of Lights.”

“You know, it's always been a place where entertainers go and find love and passion, connection to their fans. So for the Super Bowl to have made its way to Las Vegas while we were in Vegas, having such an amazing two years…'

“It is definitely going to be a moment to remember,” he added, before saying the Halftime Show “has been on my bucket list for a long time.

“This is the most grand stage to ever play on,” he said. “Those 13 minutes mean everything.”

Usher’s upcoming performance won’t be his first rodeo, though, as he’s already performed at the Super Bowl with the Black Eyed Peas back in 2011.
