Travis Kelce lost his 'smug-in-love' smile after Taylor Swift first in Green Bay

Travis Kelce had partner Taylor Swift back in the crowd to watch him play but the Kansas City Chiefs suffered their fourth loss of the season against the Green Bay Packers

Travis Kelce was far from his usual self after the Kansas City Chiefs were beaten by the Green Bay Packers. Their offense struggled to get going and went on to lose 27-19 on a chilly night at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field, despite the presence of Taylor Swift among the thousands in attendance.

Kelce, who had four catches for 81 yards, spoke in the locker room and after watching the interview a body language expert believes the added scrutiny of having a music megastar as his girlfriend is starting to impact the football star from a mental standpoint. Judi James exclusively told Mirror Sport US that while speaking to reporters, the Chiefs tight end looked like he had "other things on his mind" and showed a "desire to hide" while talking to reporters.

"Despite having support from his girl (Swift) in the stands, Kelce’s subdued body language signals here suggest defeat and dejection, as though he’s had his usual ‘Taylor Swift’ bounce' drained from his veins and is shown without his recent smug-in-love smile and his look of a man who is enjoying the spotlight," James said.

"He pulls the brim of his cap over his forehead to suggest a desire to hide, and instead of connection and a smile, we see long pauses, a shoulder shrug, mouth clamp, and shoulder and mouth shrug, suggesting regret. Either he takes losing really badly, especially in front of Taylor, or he has other things on his mind to add to his low mood here."

The Chiefs have shown glimpses of their best form but they have yet to consistently show the level of play that won them two Super Bowl titles since 2020. The AFC West team has lost three of their last five games and has already been defeated more times than through all of the previous season.

Commenting on Sunday’s game, Kelce, who lost for the first time with Swift in the crowd, said: “I mean, that's a good football team (the Packers), and they actually did better than us, and that's the bottom line. We just have to keep rallying together and fighting and growing. I ain't gonna blame this thing on anybody but ourselves."

The biggest talking point post-game was when officials decided not to throw a flag for interference as Packers defensive back Carrington Valentine appeared to be on top of Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, following a deep pass from Patrick Mahomes. It took place on a first-and-10 from the 50-yard line and had the penalty been given, the Chiefs would have been inside their opponent’s 10-yard line with just 44 seconds remaining in the game.

They did eventually make their way into the opposite end of the field, but Mahomes failed to complete his final four pass attempts as the Packers held on for their third successive home win. "Obviously, the guy was probably a little early, but at the end of the game, they're letting guys play," Mahomes said about a penalty not being given.

"I'm kind of about that. I rather you let the guys play and let the guys win on the field, but it's hard. I can't be wanting a flag. I have to try to go out there and win the game myself and with the rest of my teammates." Valdes-Scantling said the official did not respond when he asked why there was no penalty. "I was trying to get the ball and ended up on the ground,” he added. “I don't know what they saw, but I tried to catch it and didn't have an opportunity."
