A game-worn Travis Kelce jersey has sold for $36,905 at auction, as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end continues to see his popularity rise. Kelce has always been a fan favorite at the Chiefs, but his fame has skyrocketed since he started dating Taylor Swift.

The jersey is from 2019 when Kelce and the Chiefs played an international game in Mexico City against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs won the game 24-17, and Kelce had 92 receiving yards off seven receptions and a touchdown. The white jersey still has grass stains on the back, but is now the highest-selling Kelce item ever sold at auction.

It was worn years before Kelce ever met Swift, but with his popularity rising it's now seen as an even more valuable item, especially as it was in the same season the tight end won his first Super Bowl ring. The Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to complete a stunning turnaround.

The jersey had 35 total bids at auction, with the winning bid of $30,250 enough to secure the rare item. With a buyer's premium, the final sale increased to $36,905, being completed on Dec. 2.

Auction owner, Ken Goldin, told TMZ: "This is an all-time record for a Travis Kelce game-used item. He has always been popular but the success of the Chiefs, as well as the publicity he's gotten around his relationship with Taylor Swift, has added to his popularity and awareness among collectors."

Shortly after starting his relationship with Swift, Kelce's jersey sales increased by 400 percent according to Fanatics. The tight end has been one of the elite Chiefs players for some time, but now has the whole 'Swifties' fandom on his side.

Swift has attended five Chiefs games this year, and they currently have a 4-1 record with her in the crowd. It's brought a new audience to the NFL, as Swift's fans are now regularly interested in the action after tuning in to catch a glimpse of her on TV.

Fittingly their relationship began after Swift performed at an NFL stadium, as she played at Arrowhead - home of the Chiefs - as part of her "Eras Tour" earlier this year. Kelce was in the crowd and attempted to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his number on it.

He failed in executing his plan, but after discussing the story on his "New Heights" podcast Swift began to hang out with the player. "This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell … We started hanging out right after that," Swift told TIME Magazine. "Football is awesome, it turns out … I’ve been missing out my whole life."
