This is the moment a group of tourists were forced to swim to safety after the yacht they were traveling on sank off the coast of a popular vacation resort.

In the images, more than a dozen vacationers aboard the Catalina tour boat jump into the waters near Puerto Vallarta, located northwest of Acapulco in Mexico.

Nobody was injured in the incident after two other vessels came to the aid of passengers.

The group were visiting the picturesque island area of Los Arcos - a famous scuba diving, swimming and snorkeling spot in the region.

They relied on life jackets and even surfboards to reach rescue boats and were taken to a nearby beach to be checked over by medics.

Port authorities were immediately informed of the sinking on Wednesday afternoon which remains under investigation.

Statements from crew members and passengers are now being collected, officials said.

Local media reports suggest a pump failed leading to flooding on deck.

It is the second instance of a tourist boat sinking this month. On Tuesday, November 14, a 74-year-old American woman died after a boat carrying more than 100 people in the Bahamas.

Another two people were hospitalized after the double-decker vessel went under in choppy waters on the morning shuttle between Paradise Island and Blue Lagoon Island.

The woman, from Broomfield Colorado, was found "unresponsive" and showing "no signs of life", investigators said.

She had been on a five-day vacation with family.
