A teenager was fatally stabbed by a classmate on Monday during a fight caught on camera inside a North Carolina high school.

The student, 15, was rushed to a hospital after a 14-year-old peer stabbed them, but the student died from their injuries, police said.

The fight inside the gym at Southeast Raleigh High School also put a second student, 16, in the hospital with a non-life-threatening stab wound, according to local reports.

Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson confirmed during a press conference that both victims were transported to an area hospital but that one victim died.

She said: "This is a very unfortunate incident that has occurred today. One that is very disturbing to us."

The 14-year-old teen accused of stabbing his two peers was arrested and charged with murder on a juvenile petition, WRAL reported.

The fight, which was recorded on video, shows two students face-to-face before a teen in a black jacket punches a student in a red jacket, who fights back.

The brawl continued into the gym as other students followed to watch.

One of the students then appeared to stab two teens with a knife before fleeing, according to footage obtained by WRAL and CBS 17.

The school will be closed on Tuesday as the district reviews safety protocols and students mourn the death of a classmate.

Wake County Superintendent Robert Taylor said: “Schools should be a safe haven for our students and staff. What happened here today is unacceptable.”
