Taylor Swift to be honored in Brazil as Christ the Redeemer given Eras tour makeover

Taylor Swift's Brazilian fans have a unique plan to honor her by projecting an image onto the Christ the Redeemer statue. This creative tribute, led by fan Anthony Roberto Justus, aligns with her upcoming Eras Tour performances in Rio de Janeiro.

Taylor Swift's Brazilian fans are keen to project a Junior Jewels T-shirt from her "You Belong With Me" video onto the Cristo Redentor statue.

Anthony Roberto Justus, who runs the popular fan account @taylorswiftbrazilians on Instagram, initiated this unique idea for the Christ the Redeemer statue.

Proudly the "first Brazilian fan account to receive a like from Taylor," Anthony sparked a campaign on X, once known as Twitter.

The campaign went viral in Brazil with an image of the iconic statue wearing the T-shirt.

It seems Anthony's creative wish might just become a reality.

"The idea of designing a T-shirt showcases our love of her art and shows that we are all eagerly awaiting her arrival with love," Anthony shared, per USA Today.

Anthony even tagged Rio de Janeiro's Mayor, Eduardo Paes, who found the idea impressive. Responding to fans on X, Mayor Eduardo expressed his support and mentioned he'd consult Father Omar, the person in charge of the Cristo Redentor projections, about the idea.

He even shared Father Omar's Instagram handle, @padreomaroficial, for fans to follow.

Anthony mentioned that fans reached out to Father Omar, who then shared an Instagram story expressing his delight at their messages. He also said that he anticipates hearing from Taylor's team about the idea.

Anthony explained that while projections are often displayed on the statue, they always require the owner's permission.

"On several occasions, they will project images onto the statue," he explained. "but always with the owner's authorization. Even though the rendering is art illustrated by fans, we don't want to violate Taylor's copyright."

Following her much-buzzed-about Argentina shows, Taylor is scheduled to continue the South American leg of her Eras Tour to Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro, performing on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It remains uncertain whether Taylor and her crew will green-light the projection of the image onto the Christ the Redeemer statue.

This art deco statue, towering at 98 feet on Corcovado Mountain with its arms outstretched, symbolizing peace, is recognized as one of the "New 7 Wonders of the World."
