Saw X hilariously mocks Nicole Kidman's iconic AMC ad in parody trailer as Jigsaw returns

In the run-up to Saw X's highly anticipated release, the franchise has ripped into Nicole Kidman's iconic AMC ad, sharing a gory twist as the Jigsaw killer returns to cinemas.

Saw X release hilarious AMC parody advert

Nicole Kidman’s indelible AMC ad has catapulted to notoriety in just two years. Originally a heartfelt message welcoming cinemagoers back to in-person theatres following the near all-out shutdown during the pandemic.

The ad plays in AMC theaters before all movies and sees the Australian star walking into a cinema in a chic pin-striped suit all the while she monologues in the voice-over about the greatness of seeing movies in the cinema.

The dramatized ad sparked a cult-like phenomenon among film aficionados making memes, reaction videos and cosplays with the minute-long clip growing to such infamy that even Saturday Night Live crafted a parody starring Chloe Fineman.

In the run-up to Saw X’s release later this month, the marketers have crafted a new gory mockery of the advert with the franchise’s iconic Billy the Puppet taking on the role of Nicole.

The new clip is almost a scene-by-scene remake with the notorious puppet, Billy, rolling into a theatre on his classic red tricycle across a puddle of blood rather than water like the original shows.

Replacing Nicole’s monologue is John Kramer’s, played by Tobin Bell, iconic raspy vocals and twists her words, welcoming fans back to the theatres “to scream” rather than “to laugh”.

The irreverent clip follows Billy into the cinema, much like the Hollywood star, until his tricycle is abruptly stopped by the stairs, halting John’s speech as he sighs disappointingly in the voiceover.

As the puppet makes it to his seat gore and screams fill the room with clips from the previous nine Jigsaw movies playing out across the screen.

Billy suddenly turns to the camera miming the voiceover: “Somehow, self-amputation feels good in a place like this.

“Traps, they make movies better,” it ends as Jigsaw’s inimitable giggle echoes across the theatre.

The parody marks just the latest move in sensational marketing from the Saw X team, following the news that there will be a Saw Blood Drive this Halloween and the first trailer revealing Shawnee Smith's celebrated return to the franchise.

Saw X hits cinemas on September 29, 2023.
