Growing hype over Saw X has seen the movie's release date moving forward by a full month - as the new trailer reveals one of John Kramer's iconic apprentices making a shock return.

SAW X Official Trailer starring Tobin Bell

After two disappointing releases in the Saw franchise, viewers have been eager to return to the series’ roots and filmmakers have seemingly obliged, making a sensational comeback with a prequel plot to round off the decalogy.

Here’s what fans should know to expect so far as the year’s hottest horror release shares its first trailer today.

Release date change

While Saw X was originally set to make an iconic horror double-bill on Halloween weekend alongside Five Nights at Freddy’s, the insatiable enthusiasm from fans has seemingly been noted by Lionsgate.

The horror flick will now be released on September 29, a full month ahead of its original date and unlike many of its predecessors in the franchise, fans will be able to enjoy the gore-riddled masterpiece on the big screen.

Who is in Saw X?

As a prequel, fans expected Tobin Bell to make his long-awaited return to the franchise as the murderous cancer patient John Kramer.

In an unexpected twist though, notorious Jigsaw apprentice Amanda Young, played by Shawnee Smith, will also be making a return.

Ragnorak star Synnøve Macody Lund is set to make her debut in the franchise alongside Saw newbies Steven Brand, Michael Beach, Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernandez, Octavio Hinojosa and Joshua Okamoto.

While it hasn’t yet been confirmed it seems unlikely that Hollywood heavyweights Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson will return to the series following their appearances in 2021’s Spiral spin-off.

What is Saw X about?

Saw X offers yet another insight into John Kramer’s villainous origin story, starting with his devastating cancer diagnosis and search for a cure.

The new trailer sees the civil engineer falling victim to a medical scam in Mexico and once he discovers it, the soon-to-be notorious killer crafting his first-ever game.

Fans have been offered just a glimpse at the new traps the team of con artists find themselves in, promising all of the unapologetic gore and macabre brilliance of the original series.
