Petoskey has all the small-town charm you could want and it sits right on Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It also offers eight miles of shoreline.

At the Sun Outdoors resort, there's nothing they haven't thought of for the RV vacationer - or indeed the Condo renter.

The pretty Sun Outdoors Petoskey Bay Harbor resort in Petoskey, Michigan, has spacious RV sites and luxurious condo rentals. Set around pretty landscaped grounds, the back-in RV sites have full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service.

There are also concrete pads that will accommodate up to 55 feet with an abundance of space for slide-outs.

They even have their own picnic table with benches - even a fire pit. The sites are well-spaced out around the grounds of the gated property.

The children will love the swimming pool, complete with sunloungers, while mum and dad could stroll around the pretty pond edged in boulders and reeds. There’s also a putting green and tennis courts for the more sporty.

Bob Martin, a longtime RVer and president and CEO of Thor Industries, an RV manufacturer, notes, "The park is ideal for those traveling in large RVs and seeking extended stays." The sites can accommodate rigs up to 55 feet long and include Wi-Fi, cable, and a fire pit.

It’s an ideal spot for a summer break; not just for the lake location, but the beautiful grounds and activities within the resort.

And should the weather turn, there’s a billiard room and spacious bar. While there is no restaurant on-site, nearby are many and the favored (SP) are Thai Orchid Cuisine, Julienne Tomatoes, and Palette Bistro.

The adorable, historic town of Petoskey is set on the shores of Little Traverse Bay and is around ten minute drive away from Sun Outdoors. The town’s main district is the Gaslight district with old street lamps and Victorian architecture.

The streets are lined with lovely little boutiques and the ubiquitous fudge shops. The town’s beach has lovely wide sandy beaches and sparkling blue water.

There’s a ferry from here and you can poodle around the lake or take it over to Harbor Springs. Campers can pitch up on Petoskey State Park Beach; an incredibly pretty sandy beach. You can’t miss the Petoskey Pierhead Light, a 30ft red and white tower overlooking the bay.

If you time it right, you might be able to catch a concert in Pennsylvania Park, near the downtown shopping area.

Cyclists will love to hit the Little Traverse Wheelway which runs for 26 miles from Harbor Springs to Petoskey, along the coast. Hikers can enjoy Petoskey’s Bear River Valley Recreation Area which has rushing rapids, forested trails, and beautiful nature walks.

Petoskey is famous for cherries, wine, and fudge, but perhaps the most significant keepsake is a Petoskey Stone (the State Stone) - a fossil, colonial coral that’s pebbled-shaped. It can be found in the Little Traverse Bay area - or you could buy one from a souvenir shop.
