is expected to announce that he will as an independent candidate next week, sources close to his team have said.

Last week teased a “major announcement” and implied he would be leaving the Democratic primary because he could not overcome hurdles set by the Democratic National Committee, which is backing President Biden for re-election.

The scion of a famous political dynasty – a son of the former US attorney general and New York senator Robert F Kennedy, and a nephew of the former president John F Kennedy is expected to announce his run in Pennsylvania on October 9.

According to a report by MediateKennedy’s campaign is planning “attack ads” that will target the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

A Kennedy campaign insider reportedly said: “Bobby feels that the DNC is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy so an independent run is the only way to go.”

Kennedy’s run would be a departure from the Democratic Party which has been synonymous with his family name for decades.

He is known for spreading misinformation on vaccines.

In a meeting with anti-vaccine activists in June, Kennedy falsely said there was good evidence that vaccine research had caused millions of deaths during the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic.

He also claimed that such research could have created Covid-19, H.I.V. and other deadly viruses.

But he denies being an anti-vaxxer, saying during an appearance before Congress: "I have never been anti-vax. I have never told the public to avoid vaccination.”

In a recent video released by his campaign, Kennedy speaks about "a sea change in American politics”.

He said: “How are we going to win against the established Washington interests?

"It’s not through playing the game by the corrupt rules that the corrupt powers and the vested interests have rigged to keep us all in their thrall. Instead, we’re going to have to rewrite the assumptions and change the habits of American politics.

“What I’ve come to understand after six months of campaigning: There is a path to victory."

Kennedy said that the more he sees the inherent goodness of the American people, “the more the path to victory becomes visible.”
