Princess Kate 'really owns the stage' without Prince Harry and Meghan Markle around

Princess Kate addressed a group of young delegates earlier this week, giving a thank-you speech for their "bravery".

Princess of Wales gives rare speech on mental health importance

Princess Kate really "owns the stage" now Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken a backseat in royal engagements, two royal experts have claimed.

It comes after Kate and her husband Prince William headed to Birmingham earlier this week for World Mental Health Day, where Kate delivered a heartfelt speech to those who came out for the forum and workshops.

There’s been a noticeable change in Kate’s public speaking, which is being credited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle making their royal exit, Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito, co-hosts of the Royally Obsessed podcast claim.

Roberta was really impressed by Kate’s speech earlier this week, and the timeline stood out to her - as there’s been a shift since Harry and Meghan took a step back from royal engagements.

Rachel, too, is picking up on Kate's newfound energy.

Rachel was the one to bring up the topic, saying: “This was such a surprise that Harry and Meghan would be in NYC, our home turf practically, and also that Kate and William would be out and about.”

But, Roberta was more keen to talk about the Waleses than the Sussexes: “I think Kate has really owned the stage, since Harry and Meghan left, I think she was always a little nervous when it came to public speaking. Listen to this speech, and tell me what you think…”

Kate and William co-hosted a panel, entitled Exploring our Emotional Worlds, which puts a focus on talking about mental health issues.

Kate gave the participants the following thank-you speech: "This is a major step forward. William and I continue to be inspired to see young people, like you all here today, leading this charge — being particularly brave in having some of those conversations yourselves. As a generation, you value and talk more about your mental health than any before you — something we truly admire and applaud.”

After playing the recording of the speech, Roberta shared a quick thought: “I do think she’s still looks a little nervous, and you can tell, quickness of breath, but, yeah, I think she’s getting really good at these public speeches.”

Rachel isn’t seeing nerves, respectfully disagreeing with her co-host: “There’s definitely an evolution, you can really see, there’s a confidence there. I always forget you can go to the Royal Family YouTube channel and hear this in full, because you do want to hear what they’re saying. We had such an embarrassment of riches during the pandemic when they were constantly talking to camera on social media and it’s nice to be able to access that.”

The Royal Family Channel, available via YouTube, has a video of Kate giving the speech in its enitreity and also includes William chatting with guests.

Kate and William were joined by 100 young delegates, who were nominated by mental health and youth engagement charities to participate with the royals in workshops focusing on “emotions, relationships and community action,” reports People magazine.
