Princess Kate beams with new hairstyle showing her 'raised levels of confidence'

Princess Kate has gone from curtain bangs to more traditional bangs. She's not quite at full fringe, but... almost.

Princess Kate’s curtain bangs have been trimmed and they now end right at her eyebrows. Body language expert Judi James points out some women opt for bangs to cover their forehead or hide behind, but that’s not the case with Kate.

James has chimed in on Kate’s new look, saying bangs mean she needs to hold her chin up, which exudes confidence and "no shy ducking of the head".

James explains the thought process behind getting bangs.

She added: “Many women resort to a fringe because it creates a softer and more youthful look but that usually means a full fringe, when Kate’s new look involves a curtaining effect that makes less difference to her face shape, suggesting there’s no paranoia about her age on display."

Bangs are a lot of work, with James adding: “Her forehead is still on display and the look is only marginally softer. It’s not really easy to manage either. She might be busier recently and needs a more practical style but these bangs will need much more attention than her all-one-length style, which could easily be pinned up or pinned back without needing any attention after that, while this new style could see her hair falling over her face more and needing constant checking.”

James talks about how bangs have a positive effect on Kate’s body language.

She said: “Firstly then it probably shows raised levels of confidence rather than hinting at any low self-esteem. To wear curtain bangs like this, especially as a royal, needs a raised chin to avoid hair falling over your face. A raised chin means total confidence, with no ‘shy’ ducking of the head.”

Also, it may be new to onlookers, but it’s actually a look Kate wore years ago, with James pointing out: “But there is also a possible psychological reason for this cut (as there always is for a change of haircut.). This is not actually a new look for Kate but one that will create feelings of comfort and familiarity. It could be a look that suggests she’s keen to re-experience some of the feelings of freedom and happiness from her past as she steps up now to her most regal and high-status roles to date.”

Princess Kate and Prince William will be heading to Birmingham tomorrow for World Mental Health Day. Their event, Exploring our Emotional Worlds, "will bring together 100 young delegates nominated by ten leading mental health and youth engagement charities to start a conversation about how they manage their emotions and how they can be supported to build their resilience and protective factors such as healthy relationships which make it easier to navigate bumps in the road as they go through life," according to Kensington Palace.
