Princess Kate rocks 'work uniform' as British Royal Family enters 'busy season'

It's officially fall, and the royals are busy with multiple engagements per week. In an attempt to keep on schedule, Princess Kate has streamlined her wardrobe.

Fall marks the start of the “busy season” for royals. Princess Kate seems to have received the memo, and she’s a step ahead - planning out her wardrobe in a strategic manner.

At the start of the year, Kate was layering, calling on staples, like knits, blazers and trousers, but now, her look is more streamlined - and she’s donning suits.

The latest episode of Royally Obsessed premiered this morning, with host Rachel Bowie speaking to Elizabeth Holmes, author of HRH: So Many Thoughts On Royal Style.

Holmes has been across Kate’s wardrobe for a while now, and she’s seeing a trend emerge, with Kate wearing suits to her engagements, which she refers to as a “uniform.”

It makes sense for Kate to plan out her wardrobe: it’s efficient. If that decision is made in advance, she can focus on the topic at hand, whether it’s visiting a textile mill or speaking with young students and their parents, which both took place this week.

Holmes has a theory on Kate’s process: “I’m very interested in the way she sequences her outfit, and we started to see that in the beginning of the year. Back in January, I was like, ‘Oh, there’s a uniform emerging, that she was kind of relying on, I don’t know, I kind of call it, an equation.’”

The royal watcher started to notice a cohesiveness, which has evolved over the past few seasons: "I was calling it ‘Kate’s Uniform’ in the winter and into the spring. And now in the fall, it’s kind of sharpened into… SUITS." she says excitedly with pure joy.

Holmes is really like this statement piece: “I love this for her, if I’m being honest because it’s such a vibe. And suits are trending right now. They’re everywhere. It’s such a professional, woman at work, vibe. Kate is doing it in a way that she is embracing royal colors, too, like jewel tones. But, suits. We are seeing so many suits from her.”

And, so is the Royally Obsessed host: “I know, I loved the Burberry, the rich green. That was just such a surprise, but also a really, really solid piece and version of her work uniform. I feel the same way. Truly, when you look back at what Kate has worn in September, it has been her, quote on quote, work uniform.”

Bowie wasn't expecting to see Kate pop-up this week: "I think it’s hard to anticipate with the Waleses. I’m always refreshing the royal news to see what’s happening. This was not something on my royal calendar to see her today (Mill). I mean, were you aware that this engagement was happening?"

Holmes predicts we can see more of Kate in the near future: "No, and I feel they’re doing more of that, like in COVID and then post-COVID, they're doing more of these surprise engagements. As I understand it, it’s to maintain crowds and security, and things like that. When they’re in their busy season, any day can be a day for a royal engagement."

One way to keep up with Kate and her events is with The Royal Diary, but we are liking these surprise events, too.
