Prince William almost messes up magicians card trick in awkward video

William has had three jokester moments in the last week.

Prince William and Kate face-off at netball event

Prince William swung by the CBeebies TV show Blue Peter to receive a green badge and he stayed for a magic trick.

The badge is to honor the Duke of Cambridge for the work he’s done as part of the Earthshot Prize project he founded in 2020. The magic trick is just a bit of fun and another chance for William to show off what a good sport he is.

The CBeebie official social media handle shared a video of the exchange with the caption reading: Anyone for a card trick? Or how about a green #BluePeter badge in recognition of the incredible @EarthshotPrize.The Blue Peter birthday special with @KensingtonRoyal airs Friday 13th October on @CBBC and @BBCiPlayer.”

Blue Peter presenter Joel Mawhinney invited William to pick a card, which he did. Mawhinney suggested William “show the gang,” which he did. He was asked to shuffle the cards, which he did. He made sure they were shuffled-shuffled.

And from there, Mahwhinney asks William, “Is this your card, the eight of clubs?”

There was a slight pause, with William saying back, “I think it was, wasn’t it?” turning to the cameraman for reassurance. William then changes his answer to: “Seven of clubs? Seven of clubs!,” which in fact is the correct answer. He then has a big belly laugh, bending over, kicking up his knee, exclaiming, “You got me there!”

William compliments the amateur magician, saying, “That was amazing Joel! How’d you do that? No, don’t tell me. Don’t tell me.” The number one rule in magic is a magician never reveals his secrets. It appears William forgot for the rule, just for a second, and then remembered.

He is known to be a bit of a jokester, so this isn’t necessarily a new thing, but with three fun and silly moments in the last week, it matches up with the forum he co-hosted with Princess Kate on the importance of talking about mental health, earlier this week as part of World Mental Health Day.
