Prince Harry has been told his new Invictus Games documentary will not work as a “rebrand” as “the damage has already been done”.

Netflix documentary Heart Of Invictus, by Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions, will premier today.

According to a Netlfix announcement, it follows “a group of extraordinary competitors from around the globe — all service members who have suffered life-changing injuries or illnesses — on their road to competing at the Invictus Games”.

Imarn Ayton, an anti-racism activist, hailed Harry’s latest project as “inspirational”, but added she thinks the Sussex royals are now associated with “insincerity, betrayal and fuelling the culture wars”.

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Ayton said: “It reminds me of why I used to like him in the first place - it was very inspirational.

“But in terms of the rebrand, I don't actually think it's going to work. The damage has already been done.”

The activist also said on the broadcast: “The biggest issue is the fact they've done this weird transition from full-blown celebrity to full-blown royalty.

“And so as much as this documentary is helpful it doesn't negate the fact that the damage has been done. There will forever be a cohort within the UK and abroad that will associate this couple with insincerity, betrayal and fuelling the culture wars.”

Journalist and Sussex supporter Tiwa Adebayo disagreed that the Sussexes were in need of “rehabilitating”, as they had been “incredibly successful”.

Pointing to Harry’s memoir Spare, which was a best-selling book in both the UK and US, as well as Meghan's podcast, Archetypes, which was “number one in six countries”.

“Look how respected they are by their peers – just this week Meghan's mum was pictured with Kim Kardashian,” Adebayo said.

Meghan and Harry quietly ended their partnership with Spotify earlier this year, with just one season of Archetypes and a holiday special released as part of their deal.

It comes after Harry surprised fans by showing up to a special screening of Heart Of Invictus in Chula Vista, California,

King Charles III’s son said: “Tonight, you guys get to see Heart Of Invictus – which has been the last two years in the making – sooner than anybody else, so it will be coming out on Wednesday.

“You guys get to watch it tonight – or at least two episodes – to whet the appetite for the rest of it.”

Harry even joked with the audience, commenting: “It’s nice of you to dress up for the occasion.

“Suits and ties — no? I just want to say a huge thank you for coming out tonight.”
