Meghan Markle has been "networking among senior Democrats" as she considers a career away from the Royal Family and into US politics - and we want to know what YOU think.

This comes after the Duchess of Sussex was reportedly in the running to replace Dianne Feinstein, the veteran California Senator, who died at the age of 90. A memo obtained by The Sun said that Meghan had a virtual hour-long meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom, who decided to hand the role to Democratic strategist Laphonza Butler.

Since relocating to the US in 2020, the Suits star has made a series of public interventions into the sector, including lobbying politicians for changes to parental leave and climate policy. In an interview with Vogue last year, she spoke to feminist pioneer Gloria Steinem about the US Supreme Court overturning the historic ruling from the Wade v Roe case in 1973 on abortion.

What’s more, Joe Biden’s political activist sister Valerie endorsed Meghan as a woman should would back for the White House, reports the MailOnline. The Duchess has also topped a poll in which Democrats were asked which women they would vote for - tying with vice president Kamala Harris and ahead of Hillary Clinton.

In contrast, Nile Gardiner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation, has criticised Meghan’s plans to step into US politics. The foreign policy expert told Newsweek: "It's wrong for the Duchess of Sussex to be engaging in US political activity. She's a member of the royal family, she has a royal title.

"She's not a working royal but she carries the title Duchess of Sussex, and in my view, if she starts campaigning politically she should relinquish that title or it should be removed by the Royal Family. Definitely the calls for the removal of her title will be accelerated if she decides to start campaigning for Joe Biden or Congressional candidates. She should not be engaging in any political activity as a royal."

But Eric Schiffer, chair of Reputation Management Consultants, told the magazine that Americans aren’t “biassed by titles”, adding: "They're going to look at confidence and they're going to look at likability and whether she really supports and will fight for the issues that matter."

Meanwhile, entertainment expert Mark Boardman has told New that the career change could be seen as a “positive career progression”, but it would have a “significant impact” on her and “affect her relationship with everyone in her immediate family”. He expanded: “Public scrutiny would force her to make decisions based on public perception, potentially straining her relationship with fellow senators and Harry, who needs to spend more quality time with her, especially considering their family responsibilities.”

While the Duchess considers embarking upon a new career, we want to know if YOU think she should move into politics? Vote in our poll HERE to have your say.
