'Do you know who I am?' 'Drunk' Ohio mayor led cops on high speed chase before crashing

The Ohio mayor shouted at the arresting officers, ranting "what you are doing is wrong - let me tell you how it works".

Former Ohio mayor leads cops on dramatic chase before being arrested

The former mayor of a small town found herself in a dramatic high-speed chase with the police before being arrested for driving under the influence.

Cathy Luks, 66, who had served as North Royalton's mayor from 1999 to 2007, was initially pulled over by the police due to an expired license plate on her car on Wednesday afternoon.

However, her response was marked by confusion and uncooperativeness when the police officer attempted to explain the reason for the stop.

While handcuffed and being spoken to by officers in a squad car, she stated, "You know what? I was the mayor of the city of North Royalton."

Recently released bodycam footage reveals that Luks disregarded the officer's instructions and appeared disoriented during the traffic stop.

In the video, the officer can be heard saying: "Because you're going 43(mph) in a 25(mph) zone, and your plates are expired. Do you have a driver's license with you?' the officer can be heard asking."

'No,' Luks answered.

The officer then says: "Where's your driver's license at?," and Luks simply replies: "No."

"Can you pull into a park?," the cop asks.

But Luks repeats "No," before rolling up her window and speeding off.

The officer swiftly returned to his patrol car, activated the flashing lights and blaring siren, and pursued Luks at speeds reaching up to 65 miles per hour.

Approximately 30 seconds later, the officer caught up with Luks as she lost control of her vehicle and collided with a tow truck in a parking lot.

She was removed from her car, placed in handcuffs, but resisted entering the police vehicle, requesting her belongings and a seat.

"I want my stuff back," Luks can be heard repeatedly saying. "What you are doing is wrong. Let me tell you how it works."

She was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding, opening a container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and driving with expired license plates.

Luks appeared at the Parma Municipal Court the day following her arrest, where no plea was entered.

Her case, concerning non-compliance, categorized as a third-degree felony, is anticipated to be presented before a Cuyahoga County grand jury in the coming days.
