New Speaker vows to go after Biden after he 'very likely' committed impeachable offenses

The newly-elected Speaker of the House said he is committed to "follow the truth wherever it leads" as he pledged to investigate Joe Biden's conduct further.

Mike Johnson claimed it is "very likely" that President Joe Biden committed impeachable offenses in connection to his family's activities.

The new Speaker of the House said he will continue to investigate whether the President and the Biden family benefited financially from their connections with foreign actors while he served as vice president.

The Louisiana Republican said the committee looking into the activities of the Biden family has shifted its focus on the president himself because of the evidence collected so far.

He said: "The reason we shifted to the impeachment inquiry stage on the president himself was because if, in fact, all the evidence leads where we believe it will, that’s very likely impeachment."

Johnson alleged that the investigation so far had fueled speculation about potential bribery as well, saying the charge was "listed there, and it looks and smells a lot like that.”

Speaking to Fox News's Sean Hannity, he continued: "We’re going to follow the truth wherever it leads.

"We’re going to engage in due process because, again, we’re the rule-of-law party.

“I know people are getting anxious and they’re getting restless, and they just want somebody to be impeached, but we don’t do that like the other team."

Johnson's comments came hours after the chair of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R. - Ky.) asked the president to clarify why he received a check from James Biden for $200,000 the same day his brother secured a transfer for the same amount from a US hospital company.

Writing to White House counsel Edward Siskel, Comer asked for details about what the president claimed to have been a loan repayment between him and his brother James.

He wrote: "If Joe Biden did personally loan James Biden an amount that was later repaid by the $200,000 check, please provide the loan documents, including the loan payment, loan agreement, and any other supporting loan documentation.

"The White House has claimed Joe Biden loaned James Biden $200,000, and this check was repayment."

Comer, who openly scoffed at the loan repayment justification, added: "Records obtained by the Committee do show numerous large incoming transactions into the personal account of James and Sara Biden from various entities.

"Some of these transaction records may have obscured the identity of the true payer, but no records in the Committee’s possession state that Joe Biden made a large loan payment to his brother.”

The Oversight Committee Chairman also asked for the President's counsel to provide "applicable documentation and IRS filings" showing the payment Bident received was indeed a loan.
