In a viral video that has left residents of Mexico City astonished, a young man can be seen abandoning his girlfriend during a daylight robbery.

The crime took place in Iztapalapa, a poor district of the city.

The peculiar aspect of the case is that even the assailants expressed disbelief at the unusual turn of events.

The event, captured by a security camera on Tuesday, December 5, shows a motorcyclist pulling over to the sidewalk as a couple approaches.

Upon realizing the imminent threat, the boyfriend opts for a swift escape, leaving his girlfriend at the mercy of the thieves.

In the 40-second video, the individual wearing a cap, a gray hoodie, a black face mask, and a fanny pack approaches the couple.

The woman screams as the assailant puts his arm around her neck, but the situation takes an unexpected turn when the boyfriend decides to flee, leaving her alone to face the criminals.

One of the thieves then exclaimed: "What the heck, dude, how could you leave her?"

However, the young man continued to run to put distance between himself and the crime scene. Despite the apparent restraint shown by the thieves, they stripped the young woman of her belongings before instructing her to leave.

The bizarre reaction of the assailants did not go unnoticed on social media, where the video went viral.

On Twitter, users expressed their surprise and humor at the situation, with comments such as "Thieves with ethics" and "Dangerous, but chivalrous, all alpha males."

However, another Twitter user gave the boyfriend some benefit of the doubt. He wrote that perhaps the man "ran to get help."

While the story may seem comical to some, it reflects the harsh reality of insecurity in Mexico City, where robberies have sadly become all too common.

Iztapalapa, the neighborhood where the robbery took place, is one of the more crime-ridden areas of the city.
