Meghan Markle was spotted going for lunch with a friend in Santa Barbara, California on Friday. The 42-year-old mother-of-two honored Veterans Day by wearing a pin after she was criticized for wearing a poppy brooch on Armistice Day.

Meghan went for lunch with her friend, model Kelly McKee Zajfen. They dined at the Italian restaurant Pane e Vino. Later the Duchess shopped at the clothing boutique Wendy Foster.

This is the third time Meghan was spotted out and about wearing poppies. She wore one to visit San Diego’s Camp Pendleton to open a Navy SEAL training facility with her husband Prince Harry.

She wore a cardigan decorated with poppies to meet veterans and their families.

The Duchess sparked a bit of a controversy when she sported a poppy brooch at the opening of a new Navy fitness center in San Diego.

Some veterans were not too pleased with the Duchess’s choice of accessory for the occasion, it transpired.

In the UK and many other countries, the red poppy is traditionally worn on Armistice Day, 11th November, to honor those who have served.

One wrote: “Meghan Markle looks like a bloody moron wearing a Royal British Legion poppy. Who told her wearing a British poppy while ‘celebrating American veterans’ would be a good look?”

Another quipped: “I don’t think puppies are worn on Veterans Day in the US, but are worn on Memorial Day in May?

"Am I wrong?... & instead of attending court, here’s “that one” yet again climbing front and center stage at an event that has absolutely nothing to do with her.”

Others on the social media application rushed to defend the Duchess, pointing out that “she’d be slated if she didn’t wear [a poppy].”

The backlash confirmed that the duchess continues to provide divisive public figures since marrying Prince Harry in 2018.

The Duchess has since marked a few remembrance events since her marriage to Harry, who served two tours of Afghanistan with the British Army.
