Meghan is no stranger to luxury having stayed in some out-of-this-world hotels over the years.  Riviera Maya has long attracted those who want to kick back and enjoy the sensational Caribbean coastline.

The beach town of Tulum is one such place on the Yucutan Peninsula with its lively, bohemian vibe and ancient mystical Mayan ruins. This is where you’ll find Meghan Markle's favorite Mexico hotel, the Coqui Coqui Coba Papholchac Residence and Sp which has rooms that cost up to $9,000 a night.

The boutique hideaway sits within a jungle setting on the banks of a lagoon in Quintana Roo. On her now-defunct blog, The Tig, she wrote: "For years Tulum had been shrouded in this cool kid mystery to me – musings of yogis and movie stars finding solace in the slow pace and beautiful setting."

The property consists of two limestone towers connected by a wooden bridge that swings above. It was built to resemble the traditional Mayan pyramids so the property stretches across several stepped levels.

There are dipping pools and lounge areas. Everywhere looks like it could be a Mayan ruin. Lounge areas feature simple sofas, and low wooden tables.

The rooms encompass the essence of the 1920s explorer era. They are simply furnished and minimal, with very natural, earthy tones, with hats on the walls and framed antique maps and botanical drawings.

The hotel, unusually, houses its own perfumery; a novel addition. On her blog Meghan says she’s no stranger to Mexico: ‘Being a native Angeleno, annual trips to Mexico were not uncommon given the close proximity from the City of Angels.

"My mom and I would venture to Day of the Dead celebrations in Oaxaca, taking in the cultural revelry and chewing more chiclets than my mouth could fit."

She suggests booking rooms six or seven for an ocean view and "breezy cocktails on your private patio".

Meghan suggests getting out to explore the town by foot or bike and taking a yoga class at Yoga Shala, a hippie paradise where classes are taught in a jungle setting - ‘so you can get your Zen on’.

She’s not short on foodie recommendations either with the standouts of Hartwood and Posada Margherita where the Italian owners make their own pasta.
