The Beach Plum Inn, in the 300-year-old fishing village of Menemsham on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, is one of Meghan Markle’s favorite vacation spots.

She has followed in the footsteps of political and Hollywood royalty with the likes of the Obamas, (Barak held his star-studded 60th birthday on the island in 2021) Michael J. Fox, Spike Lee (who both live there), and endless wealthy entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey are big fans of the charming island.

The quaint, yet elegant property started out as a home constructed from wood salvaged from shipwrecks during a storm in 1989.

In 1958 it opened as an Inn and is one of Martha’s Vineyard’s much loved places to stay. On her now-defunct blog, The Tig, Meghan wrote: “The Beach Plum Inn is the most adorable little 19th century Inn perched on a hill overlooking Menemsha and surrounded by beautiful gardens and pastures.

"You can either stay in the main house or little cottages, both of which are lovely.

"The main house was actually built with salvaged wood from shipwrecks. It is also under a 10-minute walk to the Menemsha Village and a public beach.”

The Beach Plum Inn looks and feels like a beautiful beach house and the accommodations are stylish with comfortable furniture. There’s a wide choice of immaculate rooms which are decorated in calming hues with French-country style pieces.

They are dotted around the 30 acres with five in the Main House. They come with a mini bar, desk, and queen size beds.

Menemsha is renowned for sunsets and this hotel is ideally placed for them.

Seabreeze, the most spacious bungalow features two rooms with a private courtyard for families, Evelyn’s House is a three-bedroom home that is reminiscent of the house when it was first built with wooden planks on the walls, a large dining area, and a loft room.

Meneshma is a "dry town", but visitors can order alcohol from various stores which will be delivered to the Inn if you’re dining out, you won’t be able to order a drink, but you can take a bottle with you.

Beyond Menemsha, there are other dining options that will serve alcohol. When Meghan did eat, out she loved the lobster rolls at Larson’s Fish Market, a family-run seafood store, and State Road in West Tisbury.

She wrote: “State Road is one of the best farm-to-table restaurants I have ever been to”.  All produce is sourced from regional farmers, fishermen, and food artisans.
