Meghan Markle has pulled back on her royal responsibilities, but she hasn’t pulled back on the charity she’s been supporting since 2019. Markle is a patron of Smart Works, an organization that helps women — who are unemployed and vulnerable — to find work. The organization provides coaching tips and clothing for interviews, among other services.

The organization’s mission statement reads: “We are a UK charity that exists to give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and change the trajectory of their life.”

This year marks the organization’s tenth anniversary with Markle reaching out to the organization to celebrate their accomplishments. She sent them a letter, which Smart Works posted on their website.

Markle starts out the letter, writing,: “Congratulations to the entire Smart Works community on 10 incredible years of transforming lives. For the last decade, you have made an indelible mark on women across the UK who have walked into your doors in need of more than just an outfit — they needed someone to believe in them. As I’ve said before, you provide much more than a handout, at Smart Works you provide a hand held.”

She shares personal experiences from being on-site, adding: “Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the unforgettable smiles that comes across a woman’s face when she receives the Smart Works experience of care, inspiration, and empowerment. Something changes for her in that moment, and sets her on a path she may never have thought possible,” she continued.”

It’s clear the organization has had an impact on the royal, with Markle sharing her appreciation: “At Smart Works, you are investing in the future of women, and as a result, the world. I am so grateful to all of you who make this work possible each and every day. Celebrating you from across the pond and wishing you another amazing decade!”

Smart Works has supported 30,000 women during their ten years of operation. According to their website, 69% of clients get the job within a month of their appointment. Now that Markle has brought attention to Smart Works, possibly they will benefit from The Meghan effect.
