The 1975's Matty Healy deletes X after Lucy Dacus fires back at 'offensive' boygenius quip

Matty Healy, the divisive lead singer of The 1975, sparked controversy again with an insensitive joke aimed at Lucy Dacus of boygenius. Lucy delivers a memorable comeback, amplifying conversations around inclusivity and causing Matty to exit social media.

Philadelphia-based musician Lucy Dacus isn't putting up with any nonsense from Matty Healy.

Matty, the controversial frontman of The 1975, recently made an insensitive joke on X (previously known as Twitter).

He told Lucy, who is part of the musical trio boygenius, that her group inspired him to create a band.

Matty named the band by combining the word "girl" and an offensive term.

He then tried to joke that he rarely hears from Lucy – and her clapback was epic.

In a quick counter, Lucy pointedly summarized Matty's tweet, letting him know exactly what she thinks of him.

"You actually never hear from me,” she wrote.

Her comeback has received an overwhelmingly positive reception on the internet, amassing more than two million views and roughly 42,000 thumbs-ups.

By the time Thursday afternoon rolled around, Matty had taken the drastic step of completely deactivating his social media account.

Matty has made distasteful comments online and then shut down his account before.

In fact, it's not even the second time this has happened.

The vocalist has previously attracted attention for a slew of controversies, never mind his short-lived romance with Taylor Swift.

He took some heat after making a supposed Nazi gesture during a live performance and made racially insensitive remarks aimed at the rapper Ice Spice.

Additionally, he's been criticized for displaying overtly sexist behavior.

However, it appears Lucy is keeping her distance from this mess.

Unlike Matty, Lucy is known for staging inclusive events that uplift queer happiness and cultural diversity.

As for upcoming gigs, Lucy is scheduled to perform in Philadelphia next weekend alongside boygenius for their fully booked concert at the Mann Center.

Based on recent events, it seems reasonable to assume Matty won't be among the attendees.
